Dr. David Carter

 David has over 30 years of experience as a professional counselor in private practice. David believes all individuals have value and possess the capacity for personal growth and positive change. He explores how childhood experiences and beliefs have shaped individual's personality and influenced their thinking and behaviors, and overall mental health as adults. David uses Transactional Analysis to analyze how these internal interactions incites understanding of how repeated interactional patterns that were advantageous in childhood, prove undesirable or disadvantageous in adulthood. He challenges and instructs individuals on adjusting these interactions to align with their true life goals.  He combines this approach with Gottman strategies, to help couples understand how their current interactions tend to undermine their relationships goals, and he teaches interactional patterns that help couples create healthier relationships. His tailored therapeutic approaches assists couples in improving communication and connection. David is trained in Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Level II trained in the Gottman Method for working with couples. â€‹He provides on-line virtual sessions for clients residing in Nebraska and Kansas.

David received his Master of Science in Clinical Counseling and a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education from the University of Nebraska. David is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Nebraska where he served in some educational capacity for over 33 years in the Clinical Counseling program, the last being Department Chair. David is a professor in Mid-America Nazarene University's Graduate Counselor Education Department. He formerly served as the president of the Nebraska Counseling Association and is a current member of the American Counseling Association and Kansas Counseling Association.

In addition to his professional counseling and educational endeavors, David J. Carter is an author whose work focuses on interpersonal relationships, psychology, and human behavior. Drawing from both his academic background and practical experiences, David's books and articles have influenced the understanding of psychology, social sciences, and relationship studies.
