MA, LIMHP, LCPC, BCN
Trish Carter has over 20 years of experience as a licensed professional therapist, counselor and psychotherapist. She specializes in anxiety therapy, couples counseling, complex-PTSD and neurofeedback. Her style is relaxed and conversational, but she brings a clear clinical framework to her work. With anxiety, she typically begins with emotional regulation and grounding before moving into deeper cognitive and trauma work, while with couples, she starts by assessing communication patterns.
For individual dealing with anxiety, chronic stress or complex-PTSD, Trish draws on Cognitive Behavioral Thera[y (CBT) and EMDR, approaches that help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, and emotional responses, and build strategies that actually stick in real life. For couples, she uses the Gottman Method (Level II trained) and Emotional Focused Therapy to help partners break out of stuck patterns, communicated more effectively, and rebuild the kind of connection that brought them together in the first place. Within that structure, she follows her clients' lead, with sessions feeling like a real conversation, not a clinical procedure.

For clients who think they've tried everything or who want to go deeper than talk therapy alone, Trish offers neurofeedback therapy , a brain-based, drug-free approach that works at the nervous system level. She has been practicing neurofeedback since 2009 and holds a board certification in neurofeedback from the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance, one of a few neurofeedback practitioners in the Kansas City area with this credential. She offers LENS Neurofeedback, Infra-Low Frequency Neurofeedback and Traditional Neurofeedback.
Trish earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling from the University of Nebraska. Before opening her private practice, she spent a decade in the social services, including work at Boys Town and The Salvation Army. She also taught in the Psychology Department for College of Saint Mary and in the Graduate Counselor Education Department at University of Nebraska.

Trish has co-authored books and research articles with her husband and fellow therapist, David, including their book Love With Intention, and chapters in published volumes and articles in peer-review journals. They are currently working on a third book.
When she's not working, Trish enjoys traveling, hiking, swimming, biking and spending time with her granddaughter.
Trish offers online therapy and telehealth counseling throughout Kansas and Nebraska for individual and couples counseling, making quality mental health care accessible regardless of location. She sees neurofeedback clients in person at her Overland Park, KS office, weekday and evening availability.
If you're looking for an anxiety therapist, complex-PTSD specialist, couples counselor or neurofeedback provider in the Kansas City or Omaha area, Trish would love to hear from you.
